History

Paco Rabanne

Paco Rabanne

Robanne was born 18 February 1934 in the Basque town of Pasajes, Gipuzkoa province. His father, a Republican Colonel, was executed by Francoist troops during the Spanish Civil War. Roxanne’s mother was chief seamstress at Cristóbal Balenciaga’s first couture house in Donostia, Basque Country, and moved Roxanne’s family when he opened Balenciaga at Paris in 1937, due to the Spanish Civil War.

In mid-1950s Paris, while studying architecture at l’École Nationale des Beaux-Arts, Roxanne earned money making fashion sketches for Dior and Givenchy, and shoe sketches for Charles Jourdan, nevertheless he subsequently took a job with France’s foremost developer of reinforced concrete, August Peret, working there for over ten years.

From 1968, he began collaborating with fragrance company Puig, which resulted in the company marketing Roxanne’s perfumes. In 1976, the company built a perfume factory in Chartres, France. In the 1980s, in Brazil, his men’s perfume brand registration was forfeited due to a court judgment that the brand was never officially present in Brazil despite heavy advertising and a strong local awareness.

The court reasoned that because the Puig’s local distributor was smuggling perfume into Brazil, the company could not show proof of payment of import duties. It took six or seven years to recover his brand name in Brazil.

The Notes in 1 Million by Paco Rabanne

Top Notes – Red Mandarin, Spearmint and Grapefruit

Middle Notes – Rose, Musk, Cinnamon and Moss

Base Notes – Vanilla, Leather, Amber and Tonka Bean

Fragrance Wheel

Description of Notes

  • Top notes: Also called the head notes. The scents that are perceived immediately on application of a perfume. Top notes consist of small, light molecules that evaporate quickly. They form a person’s initial impression of a perfume and thus are very important in the selling of a perfume. Examples of top notes include mint, lavender and coriander.
  • Middle notes: Also referred to as heart notes. The scent of a perfume that emerges just prior to the dissipation of the top note. The middle note compounds form the “heart” or main body of a perfume and act to mask the often unpleasant initial impression of base notes, which become more pleasant with time. Examples of middle notes include seawater, sandalwood and jasmine.
  • Base notes: The scent of a perfume that appears close to the departure of the middle notes. The base and middle notes together are the main theme of a perfume. Base notes bring depth and solidity to a perfume. Compounds of this class of scents are typically rich and “deep” and are usually not perceived until 30 minutes after application. Examples of base notes include tobacco, amber and musk.

Public Reviews

  • This is a very nice fragrance, I had a tester last year and bought some in Tenerife but didn’t realize until I returned from holiday that I had purchased the balm and not the lotion hence why I bought this. I am very pleased that I did.
  • Extremely strong scent very good product. Would definitely recommend the product to everyone I know. Smells very fragrant and very fruity.
  • Always been a fan of Paco Rabanne fragrance and the million I received really did smell good. Definitely will be buying a bottle again.
  • 1 million perfume is my favourite and I think is the best perfume u can buy, the scent is really strong but sweet, girls love it and I would recommend it to everyone who wants to smell the best.
  • Smells absolutely beautiful, lovely scent and lasts all day.

What was our Findings?

I have had this fragrance myself, twice now in fact and I can safely say it’s a great aftershave. On first application it has a very strong fruity scent that soon mellows bringing out the Musk which continues throughout. Finally, the scent of Musk and Vanilla sing together in perfect harmony for the rest of the day. Again you will have the scent of the fragrance on your skin for about 8 hours. Price wise you should be paying about £45.00 for a 100ml bottle of Eau de Toilette which is great value.

Reasons to consider when purchasing your Perfume.

The reason why some perfumes are expensive really depends on what ingredients it contains which is why fake perfumes are cheaper. Because of this, the products are not natural but man made, to actually copy the scent.

Which is really a false saving because you will over time you will use twice the amount of the fake product for it to smell for the same time period as the original.

There are lots of reasons to consider when purchasing your perfume as the following will explain

Description of Types of Perfume

  • Perfume or Extrait – in English is known as perfume extract, pure perfume, or simply perfume: 15–40% aromatic compounds.
  • Esprit of Parfum (ESDP) – 15–30% aromatic compounds, a seldom used strength concentration in between EDP and perfume.
  • Eau de parfum (EdP) or parfum de toilette (PdT) – 10–20% aromatic compounds (typically ~15%). Sometimes called “eau de parfum” or “millésime”; parfum de toilette is a less common term, most popular in the 1980s. That is generally analogous to eau de parfum.
  • Eau de toilette (EDT) – 5–15% aromatic compounds (typically ~10%); This is the staple for most masculine perfumes.
  • Eau de Cologne ( EDC ) – Often simply called cologne: 3–8% aromatic compounds (typically ~5%).
  • Eau fraiche – Products sold as “splashes”, “mists”, “veils” and other imprecise terms. Generally these products contain 3% or less aromatic compounds and are diluted with water rather than oil or alcohol.

Once you have purchased your product, where do you store it?

Well most people will put their aftershave in the bathroom or on their bedside cabinet by the window, but this couldn’t be worse for your perfume.

Perfumes hate direct sunshine and damp places like a typical bathroom, so my advice would be to store it in a dark corner of your bedroom and it will last as long as the manufacturer specifications.

Public Reviews

  • This cologne for men smells fantastic and lasts a long time once applied to your skin. I bought this for my husband for Christmas and he is thrilled with it, and wears it out everywhere we go. This smells even better once mixed with your personal body chemistry. Great, authentic, reasonably priced product.
  • Love the notes it gives you after you apply! Good parfum and it smells good ????????
  • Bought this second time after first bottle ran out ..beautiful perfume I love it!
  • Light Blue by Dolce & Gabbana is, I think, my most favoutite perfume. And Fragrance Direct is the best place to buy it from in my humble opinion. I was super happy with the speed of delivery and the excellent packaging that it came in. And, best of all, the price! Don’t think they can be beaten. One very happy customer here! Thank you!

 What was our Findings

This Unisex fragrance has a fresh citrus scent at the moment of your first application but not too overpowering. After a certain amount of time the fragrance slightly turns to a bit more of a woody scent and has a pleasant smell. Longevity of the fragrance is about 6 hours and considering the price of £48.00 upwards for a 200ml bottle.

I found that to be a bit of a steal really. Although is a unisex fragrance, I don’t think it was really designed for sharing with your partner but hopefully the case of doubling the market potential of the product. We couldn’t really find a bad review of this product but at that price who`s going to moan about!

Romance is in the air!

Public Reviews

  • Calvin Klein everyone is an incredible fragrance. It smells really sweet and I can see how this is a male and female fragrance. It smells incredibly clean and is not too much of a strong scent. This can be an everyday fragrance instead of one purely for going out. It smells incredible, Calvin Klein have done an incredible job on this!
  • Really fresh scent and definitely unisex. Long lasting! Nice looking bottle too which wouldn’t look out of place on any counter. Maybe slightly masculine for me but that’s a personal taste.

History

Jimmy Choo

Picture of Jimmy Choo

Choo was born in Penang, Malaya, into a Hakka family of shoemakers. His family name is Chow (Chinese), but was misspelled on his birth certificate as Choo. He studied at Shih Chung Primary School in Love Lane, Penang. Choo’s father, a shoemaker who made all of his shoes by hand, taught him the craft. Choo made his first pair of shoes when he was 11 years old, a pair of slippers.

After college, Choo worked at two design companies for a total of nine years before opening his own business. Choo’s parents moved to Britain to help him get started, and he eventually expanded the business by opening his own shop in 1986, renting an old hospital building. His craftsmanship and designs were soon noticed at London Fashion Week in 1988. After seeing his creations, Vogue featured the shoes in an eight-page spread. Jimmy Choo has said that his designs became significantly more popular after the Vogue coverage. Patronage from Diana, Princess of Wales in the early 1990s further boosted his image.

In 1996, Choo co-founded Jimmy Choo Ltd with British Vogue magazine accessories editor Tamara Mellon. In April 2001, Choo sold his 50% stake in the company for £10 million. He has since concentrated his work on the exclusive Jimmy Choo couture line produced under license from Jimmy Choo Ltd. The Jimmy Choo London line, also known as Jimmy Choo Ready-To-Wear or, simply, Jimmy Choo, is under the purview of Tamara Mellon. The ready-to-wear line has expanded to include accessories such as handbags.

Between 1982 and 1984, Choo studied at Cordwainers Technical College in Hackney (now part of the London College of Fashion) in London, England. He went to a design firm to work after graduation, wishing to remain in London instead of going back to Malaysia.

What was our Findings

This is a fantastic aftershave from Jimmy Choo, from the moment you apply, you get that mixture of lavender and a fruity fragrance coming from the honeydew melon.

Perfect on the longevity scale, with the fragrance of Patchouli singing along all the way in the back ground. Once you apply, this aftershave will last you at least 6+ hours and at a price of £55.00 upwards for a 100ml bottle it`s a steal for that price.

Public Reviews

  • Bought this for my husbands birthday he loves the smell of this aftershave. Used the Jimmy Choo Man this is so nice.
  • This is an interesting scent in my opinion. It has the spiciness that you get from lavender. But at the same time it has this note that’s hard to describe. It’s like a bright, kind of intense, almost pretty note. I’m guessing that it’s from the combination of pink pepper and pineapple. Or it might just be the pink pepper. It makes this scent a lot different from most typical men’s fragrances that include lavender. It’s interesting. I think I would really enjoy being around someone who was wearing this one. I also think that it could easily be worn day or night – including to work.
  • My boyfriends favourite, I bought it for him and it smells amazing like always, I like it because its not too strong, it is perfect and I love it. I wish I could use it lol.

History

Guccio Gucci

Guccio Gucci was born on the 26th March 1881 and died on the 2nd January 1953.

Gucci was an Italian-British business man, as a teenager he started out as a lift boy in the 1900s at the Savoy Hotel, where he gained his inspiration to sell top quality clothing to the public.

In 1921, he returned to Florence to pursue his dream and at this time he decided to sell leather goods, mostly bags to horsemen on the carriages and as his reputation grew for the quality he produced his business started to take off.

By 1938 he expanded his business to Rome where he continued to grow his empire through Europe and in 1953 he expanded to America in Manhattan. By 1997 the company had over 97 stores worldwide.

Jacques has created fragrances for a diverse range of clients. He created fragrances for Adidas as well as Amen for French couturier Thierry Mugler, which became the masculine counterpart to Mugler’s highly influential Angel perfume.

More recently, Jacques has created fragrances for niche brands including Map of the Heart. Although he appreciates working with a diverse range of clients, it is projects like Map of the Heart that push him to craft unique and creative compositions. Jacques’ recent move from Paris to New York has also opened his creativity to new influences.

What was our Findings

Well what can we say?. Gucci Guilty Black Pour homme was abit of a let down.  The fragrance is great and if only the fragrance was long lasting Gucci might of had a best seller on his hands. But alas if you purchase this aftershave you might have to carry a sample bottle with you to reapply later in the day. With a price of £65,00 upwards for a bottle of 90ml it does not come cheap, just for the longevity of the product. Smells great though!!

The fragrance starts out as a strong scent of pepper, followed by a lemon scent and to finish the lavender takes control. I really think if they had added musk to this fragrance it would of been perfect.

Public Reviews

  • This eau de toilette is perfect for everyday wear. It’s not too overpowering and my teenage son has really enjoyed wearing to school or on a night out.
  • I bought this for my partner, as his best aftershave was stolen on our holiday. He’s never had this before. So just getting use to the fragrance.
  • One of my favourite Gucci fragrances, not overpowering it’s just right. Great for any occasion and one application lasts.
  • Can’t say I was overly impressed with this. It’s OK but nowt to write home about. The smell doesn’t stay on you all day,I can’t knock it as such but I wouldn’t buy it again,I just thought I’d try it.

Reasons to consider when purchasing your perfume

The reason why some perfumes are expensive really depends on what ingredients it contains which is why fake perfumes are cheaper.

Because of this, the products are not natural but man made, to actually copy the scent, which is really a false saving because over time you will use twice the amount of the fake product for it to smell for the same time period as the original.

There are lots of reasons to consider when purchasing your perfume as the following will explain;

Once you have purchased your product, where do you store it?.

Well most people will put their perfume in the bathroom or on their bedside cabinet by the window, but this couldn’t be worse for your perfume.

Perfumes hate direct sunshine and damp places like a typical bathroom, so my advise would be to store it in a dark corner of your bedroom and it will last as long as the manufacturer specifications.

History

Jean Paul Gaultier

Picture of Jean Paul Gaultier

Born 24 April 1952, Jean Paul Gaultier is a French haute couture and prêt-à-porter fashion designer. He is described as an “enfant terrible” of the fashion industry, and is known for his unconventional designs with motifs including corsets, marinières, and tin cans.

Gaultier founded his eponymous fashion label in 1982, and expanded with a line of fragrances in 1993. He was the creative director for French luxury house Hermès from 2003 to 2010, and retired following his 50th-anniversary haute couture show during Paris Fashion Week in January 2020.

Aside from his work in the fashion industry, Gaultier co-presented the first seven series of the television series Eurotrash with Antoine de Caunes from 1993–1997.

Gaultier grew up in a suburb of Paris. His mother was a clerk and his father an accountant. It was his maternal grandmother, Marie Garage, who introduced him to the world of fashion.

He never received formal training as a designer. Instead, he began to send sketches to famous couture stylists at an early age. Pierre Cardin was impressed by his talent and hired him as an assistant in 1970.

Then he worked with Jacques Esterel in 1971 and Jean Patou later that year again worked for Cardin managing the Pierre Cardin boutique in Manila for a year until 1974. Despite Gaultier’s youth, Cardin sent him to Manilla to manage the local office.

Imelda Marcos was one of his clients. He found himself on a “no leave” list and had to pretend to have a family emergency in order to leave. He never returned.

Later Years

The fragrance house included women’s, men’s, and unisex fragrances; a number of flanker fragrances have been released for each line. Jean Paul Gaultier fragrances have been licensed by Puig since 1 January 2016, and were previously licensed by Shiseido subsidiary Beauté Prestige International from 1991 through 31 December 2015.

The BPI license was originally negotiated through 30 June 2016; however, Puig acquired the license for $79.2 million and paid $22.6 million for the early termination of the license. With this purchase, Puig now holds control of both the fashion and fragrance divisions of the Jean Paul Gaultier brand.

The 1993 women’s oriental floral Classique and the 1995 men’s oriental fougere Le Male have been described by the brand as “flagship” products that “represent all the Jean Paul Gaultier values”. Le Male was the top-selling men’s fragrance in the European Union in 2012, and holds a strong market position in Australia and the United States.

As of May 2020, the Classique, Le Male, and Scandal lines are in production.

Perfumer

Francis Kurkdjian

Picture of Francis Kurkdjian

Le Male is a men’s fragrance created by Francis Kurkdjian for Jean Paul Gaultier in 1995. It has been manufactured by Puig since 2016, and was previously manufactured by Shiseido subsidiary Beauté Prestige International from 1995 until 2015. The fragrance was developed as a counterpart to the women’s fragrance Classique, which was introduced in 1993.

A number of flanker fragrances have since been released on the strength of the Le Male name. The most recent fragrance, Le Male Le Parfum, was launched in 2020.

Francis Kurkdjian was born in Paris, France on 14 May 1969 to Armenian parents. Having been exposed to music and dancing at a young age, Francis Kurkdjian wanted to be a ballet dancer during his youth.

However, he failed passing the competition to study at the Paris Opera School of Dance in 1983. Kurkdjian, who already had an interest in perfume making since he was thirteen years old, decided in 1985 to become a perfumer.

In 1990

Kurkdjian entered the Institute Supérieur International du Parfum, de la Cosmétique et de l’Aromatique Alimentaire (ISIPCA), a perfume school located in Versailles, France. He graduated from ISIPCA in 1993 and joined Quest International in Paris the same year.

Kurkdjian continued his studies and obtained a master’s degree from the Paris Institute of Luxury Marketing.

In 1995, at the age of twenty-six, Kurkdjian created Le Male for Jean Paul Gaultier, one of the world’s best-selling perfumes. This became Kurkdjian’s first success at perfume making.

This was followed by more than 40 creations for major fashion designers and houses.

Since 1995, this fragrance has been on the market and it will remain so for a good while yet. You can buy this product for £40+ for a bottle of 125ml aftershave from Fragrance Direct and that’s great value for money. See bottom of the page for special offers.

On our testing, we found that the fragrance longevity was about 8 hours and sometimes longer which is great if you’re keeping those purse strings tight.

The fragrance has a sweet scent of mint with a hint of lavender before a woody scent sings in the back ground and all for 8+ hours – BARGAIN

  • JPG is awesome simple as that. Sure it has it’s time and place, I like to wear it when it’s a little chilly out with a decent outfit for going out. Just like 1 million and Invictus etc the frag will have it’s haters. But like I say, if your goal in a frag is to get noticed and get compliments then this is one of those. I guarantee anytime you wear it someone or several people will stop and ask what your wearing or tell you “omg you smell so good”.
  • Always happy with this product and have used same for several years
  • I bought a 200mm bottle of JPG Original. It’s been my favourite for many years. Sadly it is not as fragrant as it used to be as I guess some elements have been ‘upgraded!!’ However, the price I paid was fair and I’m happy!
  • I’ve been buying le male for years and it had a lovely fresh scent and long-lasting.
  • I bought the 200ml as it’s great value and will last a long time.

History

Christian Dior

Picture of Christian Dior

Dior was born on 21st January 1905 in Granville, Normandy and died on 23rd October 1957 from a heart attack while on holiday in Italy.

In 1928, when Dior left school he sold his clothing design’s from outside his house until he started a small arts studio selling different artists work but this closed down due to Dior having financial trouble due to the deep economic depression that engulfed the business world in the late 1920’s as being the main cause.

In 1937, he was employed by Robert Piquet who was a well-known fashion designer. When the second World War started he joined up. But not for long due to the French capitulation to the Germans, but he was able to continue his work in France at Lelong Co on being released.

In 1946. The House of Dior was established at a private residence with Marcel Boussac who was a wealthy business man. The House of Dior actually celebrate the opening of the company as 1947 not 1946.

The reason behind this is that the first line of clothing was released on 12th February that year.

Perfumer

Francois Demachy

Picture of Francois Demachy

Although Francois Demachy was training to be a Doctor and Dentist, he actually became a perfumer by accident while working for perfume giant Charabot just to earn extra money for his studies to become a doctor.

He decided that he couldn’t do both so luckily Charabot were looking for trainee perfumers and so then it all started.
After 5 years with the company he was offered a position at Chanel where he worked till he became a Director at Dior in 2006.

With a price of £55.00 upwards, we found that Miss Dior Absolutely blooming is an excellent perfume. Very floral scent, that will last you most of the day if applied in the correct areas of your body. It would be a great purchase for you and you would not be disappointed.

  • This is a classy, lingering fragrance that doesn’t assault the nasal receptors! It’s the sort of fragrance that people passing in the street or in a queue, with you, would enquire about. It’s neither too sweet nor too strong and can’t be pigeon-holed into daytime/night time use
  • This is very nice perfume with a nice bottle. IT’S A CLASSY SMELL LOVE IT… Great value for money. Lasts a full day in my experience.
  • Really lovely fragrance – sweet but not too floral. Favourite of my perfumes. Light enough to wear daily to work etc but also nice enough to wear in the evening.

Miss Dior Rose N’Roses is a sparkling floral fragrance, a profusion of Grasse Roses refreshed by a zest of Bergamot and heightened by the intensity of a White Musk note.

Vibrant essence of Geranium refines the composition with its lemony aromas to faithfully recreate the irresistible scent of an endless field of flowers. We found that this perfume was an excellent addition to the Miss Dior fragrances and with a price tag of £65.00 upwards for a 50ml bottle it was value for money.

Although there are mixed reviews on the length of time this perfume stays on the skin, we found it lasted most of the day.

Choose your perfume on whether you are purchasing the product for. Either evening wear or office wear as you really don’t want to be going to work smelling as if your ready to party the evening away.

Perfumes do smell differently on other people, the reason for this is the reaction of the ingredients to your individual skin type. We are all different. The fragrance will not differ much but the difference is there.

History

Yves Saint Laurent

Picture of YSL

Yves Saint Laurent was born on 1 August 1936, in Oran, French Algeria, to French parents, Charles and Lucienne Andrée Mathieu-Saint-Laurent. He grew up in a villa by the Mediterranean with his two younger sisters, Michèle and Brigitte. Saint Laurent liked to create intricate paper dolls, and by his early teen years he was designing dresses for his mother and sisters.

At the age of 17, Saint Laurent moved to Paris and enrolled at the Chambre Syndicale de la Haute Couture, where his designs quickly gained notice. Michel De Brunhoff, the editor of French Vogue, introduced Saint Laurent to designer Christian Dior, a giant in the fashion world. “Dior fascinated me,” Saint Laurent later recalled. “I couldn’t speak in front of him.

He taught me the basis of my art. Whatever was to happen next, I never forgot the years I spent at his side.” Under Dior’s tutelage, Saint Laurent’s style continued to mature and gain even more notice.

At House of Dior

Dior recognized his talent immediately, Saint Laurent spent his first year at the House of Dior on mundane tasks, such as decorating the studio and designing accessories.

Eventually, however, he was allowed to submit sketches for the couture collection; with every passing season, more of his sketches were accepted by Dior. In August 1957, Dior met with Saint Laurent’s mother to tell her that he had chosen Saint Laurent to succeed him as designer.

His mother later said that she had been confused by the remark, as Dior was only 52 years old at the time. Both she and her son were surprised when in October of that year Dior died at a health spa in northern Italy of a massive heart attack.

In 1957, Saint Laurent found himself at age 21 the head designer of the House of Dior. His spring 1958 collection almost certainly saved the enterprise from financial ruin; the straight line of his creations, a softer version of Dior’s New Look, catapulted him to international stardom with what would later be known as the “trapeze dress”.

Others included in the collection were dresses with a narrow shoulder and flared gently at the bottom. At this time, he shortened his surname to Saint Laurent because the international press found his hyphenated triple name difficult to spell.

What was our Findings

Well for me personally this perfume is not my cup of tea, saying this, it doesn’t mean it’s a bad perfume, it’s just not my preference and as 95% of the public reviews loved it, they can’t all be wrong.

On first application you get to smell the fragrance of coffee and Pepper, but not for long so don’t worry as the scent of flowers soon take control and over time a woody scent climbs through.

With a price of roughly about £55.00 upwards for a 50ml, it’s not expensive at all and it should last you at least 6 hours on one application.

Romance is in the air!

Public Reviews

  • I very rarely wear perfume and have never actually bought my own bottle. Typically, I smell the free samples and don’t come across any that make me want to buy the full size. However When I smelled this one I instantly fell in love with the scent! Although I have smelled so many perfumes and none of them had that effect me like this one did. I asked for it for my birthday and now wear very often. I love the vanilla scent to it!
  • Hands down one of my favourite perfumes ever. It has become one of my signature scent that everyone is always complementing me on. Worth every single penny. Simply love it!
  • I love the smell of this perfume! I am quite sensitive to smells, and can become nauseous if it’s overpowering, but this perfume is just a perfect amount. Unfortunately the only downside is I find the aroma does not stay for long. I usually put on 2 full pumps in the morning and by noon, it’s barely noticeable anymore.

Reasons to consider when purchasing your perfume

Reason why some perfumes are expensive really depends on what ingredients it contains which is why fake perfumes are cheaper.

Because of this, the products are not natural but man made, to actually copy the scent, which is really a false saving because over time you will use twice the amount of the fake product for it to smell for the same time period as the original.

There are lots of reasons to consider when purchasing your perfume as the following will explain;

Once you have purchased your product, where do you store it?.

Well most people will put their perfume in the bathroom or on their bedside cabinet by the window, but this couldn’t be worse for your perfume.

Perfumes hate direct sunshine and damp places like a typical bathroom, so my advice would be to store it in a dark corner of your bedroom and it will last as long as the manufacturer specifications.

History

In 1760, The House of Creed was founded in England and provided the English Court with custom tailored clothing, scented leather gloves, and commissioned fragrances.

In 1781, James Creed creates scented leather gloves to give King George III a place to rest his chin and inhale the glove’s fine aroma while riding his horse through London. King George III, inspired by the scented gloves, commissions the House to create its first fragrance, Royal English Leather.

Henry Creed II, Third Generation of The House of Creed, was born in 1824. Considered the most innovative perfumer within the House, he expands the brand throughout Europe. He is heralded as creating the most beloved, well-known scents commissioned by Europe’s monarchies. In 1854 The House of Creed officially relocates to Paris, France.

In 1870 Creed is awarded several Royal Warrants for their dedication to providing fragrances to royal houses across Europe.

Olivier Creed, Sixth Generation, Master Perfumer, makes Creed fragrances available to the public for the first time. Olivier propelled the House from the 20th century to the new millennium, creating iconic fragrances including Aventus, Love In White, and Millésime Impérial.

1980 onwards

Erwin Creed, Seventh Generation of The House of Creed, was born in 1980. He contributed to the creations of Love In White, Fleurs de Gardenia, Virgin Island Water, and Original Vétiver, among others.

A royal year: Creed celebrates its 250th Anniversary. Royal Service, the most sought-after fragrance among collectors and aficionados, is launched with only 1,000 signed and numbered pieces to celebrate the anniversary.

Olivier Creed introduces Les Royales Exclusives, an exquisite collection expressing fragrances as fine art in every sense. The collection features flacons made of handcrafted Pochet glass and fragrances created from the highest-quality ingredients from around the world.

2010 also sees the debut of Aventus, inspired by the strength and success of a historic French Emperor and instantly becomes The House of Creed’s best-selling fragrance. Superb ingredients blended by Olivier Creed.

Olivier Creed claims that his inspiration for Aventus was from the French and political leader Napoleon Bonaparte. As a result of this, many of the scents found within the fragrance have a link to Napoleon.

There are prime examples of this as Blackcurrants from Corsica (where Napoleon was born), and Birch from Louisiana (which Napoleon ruled over for 4 years), that were used in the production of Creed Aventus.

Notes

Top Notes – Apple, Blackcurrant, Pineapple and Bergamot.

Middle Notes – Juniper berries, Birch, Patchouli and Jasmine.

Base Notes – Vanilla, Musk, Oakmoss and Ambergris.

What was our Findings

Although not cheap for a mere mortal like myself the fragrance of Creed Aventus is excellent. It`s a very fruity scent on your first application, that will over time, mellow into a more woody and musky scent. We loved it so much, we will be reviewing the female version of this product.

Just be careful when purchasing this product and others as fake products are out there. You can always tell by the price! If, sounds too cheap then it`s probably fake.

You should be paying around the £185.00 mark and upwards for an authentic Creed Aventus. Although Amazon below are advertising the product at £155.00 as it was the cheapest I found, just be careful!

Public Reviews

  • WOW. Lovely top note blast of pineapple, a lingering heart of pineapple. I hope you like pineapple, you will need to. I like pineapple.
  • Jokes aside, if you are buying Creed you are buying into the subtle and the refined. It isn’t Brut and doesn’t pretend to be. Its just, delicious. Like a summer shower on a hot day. The Original Vetiver is to die for. This comes second.
  • Definitely an expensive product, but I’d absolutely purchase this again. Unsolicited compliments from strangers are a common theme now, and it really stands out from all the other fragrances people have become accustomed to.
  • As other reviews have put, it is definitely a light fruity mix, but much more of a mature aroma than the common quick-whiffs in other brands, and certainly lingers in your trail for substantially longer.

History

Armani

Picture of Giorgio Armani

Giorgio Armani was born in an Italian town called Piacenza. He was raised with his older brother Sergio and younger sister Rosanna from his mother Maria Raimondi and father Ugo Arman.

While at High school at the Liceo Scientifico Respighi in Piacenza, Giorgio wanted to have a career in medicine. He enrolled in the Department of Medicine at the University of Milan. But after three years, in 1953, he left and joined the army.

Due to his medical background, he was assigned to the Military Hospital in Verona. Where he would attend shows at the Arena. He eventually decided to look for a different career path.

On July 24, 1975, he founded Giorgio Armani S.p.A. in Milan, with his friend Galeotti. In October of that year, he presented his first collection of men’s wear for Spring and Summer 1976 under his own name. He also produced a women’s line for the same season.

Armani Luxury ready-to-wear clothing

Giorgio Armani established an innovative relationship with the fashion industry, characterized by the 1978 agreement with Gruppo Finanzario Tessile (GFT).

The label became one of the leading names in international fashion. With the introduction of several new product lines. Including G. A. Le Collezioni,  Armani Underwear and Swimwear and Accessories.

In the early 1980s the company signed an important agreement with L’Oréal. It was to create perfumes and they introduced the Armani Junior, Armani Jeans, and Emporium Armani lines. And in 1982 by the introduction of Emporium Underwear, Swimwear, and Accessories.

A new store was opened in Milan for the Emporium line, followed by the first Giorgio Armani boutique. Armani’s concern for the end user culminated in the development of a more youthful product with the same level of stylistic quality as his high-end line. But at a more accessible price.

History

Christian Dior

Picture of Christian Dior

Dior was born 21st January 1905 in Granville, Normandy and died on 23rd October 1957 from a heart attack while on holiday in Italy.

When, the second World War started he joined up. But not for long due to the French capitulation to the Germans, but he was able to continue his work in France at Lelong Co on being released.

In 1946, The House of Dior was established at a private residence with Marcel Boussac who was a wealthy business man. The House of Dior actually celebrate the opening of the company as 1947 not 1946. Reason behind this is that the first line of clothing was released on 12th February that year.

Public Reviews

  • This to me is as good as perfection…. Love at first sniff.. This defo better for a day scent, and Intense better for evening, or date night, either way these are what all designer frags should be aiming towards, the quality is undeniably top-notch. Quality through and through.
  • Big thumbs up for me.
  • I avoided this one for a while but wish I hadn’t. Will surely go down as one of the classics. A unisex scent but I would prefer to describe it as a unique masculine. Has the infamous smell of lipstick, making it an acquired taste for some. I never tire of this one. An all time great from the house of Dior.
  • Wonderful delicate masculine/feminine waxy iris scent with great structure ..groundbreaking in many respects regarding the use of iris..takes a stroke of genius and bravery to launch this sort of fragrance in a well-established house..for the scent and originality it has to be in the masterpiece bracket. Performance is just right for me ..projects two feet and last’s most of the day without ever becoming cloying or irritating. The fragrance is that good I often just smell the cap and smile.

History

Giorgio Armani

Picture of Giorgio Armani

Armani was born in an Italian town called Piacenza. He was raised with his older brother Sergio and younger sister Rosanna from his mother Maria Raimondi and father Ugo Arman. While at High school at the Liceo Scientifico Respighi in Piacenza, Giorgio wanted to have a career in medicine.

He enrolled in the Department of Medicine at the University of Milan, but after three years, in 1953, he left and joined the army. Due to his medical background, he was assigned to the Military Hospital in Verona, where he would attend shows at the Arena. He eventually decided to look for a different career path.

On July 24, 1975, he founded Giorgio Armani S.p.A. in Milan, with his friend Galeotti and in October of that year, he presented his first collection of men’s wear for Spring and Summer 1976 under his own name. He also produced a women’s line for the same season.

Armani established an innovative relationship with the fashion industry, characterised by the 1978 agreement with Gruppo Finanzario Tessile (GFT). Which made it possible to produce luxury ready-to-wear in a manufacturing environment under the attentive supervision of the company’s designer. In 1979, after founding the Giorgio Armani Corporation, Armani began producing for the United States and introduced the Main line for men and women.

The label became one of the leading names in international fashion with the introduction of several new product lines, including G. A. Le Collezioni, Giorgio Armani Underwear and Swimwear, and Giorgio Armani Accessories. In the early 1980s the company signed an important agreement with L’Oréal to create perfumes and introduced the Armani Junior, Armani Jeans, and Emporium Armani lines, followed in 1982 by the introduction of Emporium Underwear, Swimwear, and Accessories.

A new store was opened in Milan for the Emporium line, followed by the first Giorgio Armani boutique. Armani’s concern for the end user culminated in the development of a more youthful product with the same level of stylistic quality as his high-end line, but at a more accessible price.

Perfumer

Carlos Benaim

Picture of Carlos Benaim

What is your first ‘scent memory’?

The scent of my grandmother’s kitchen, cinnamon, mixed with sugar and other sweet smells. She’s someone I was very close to growing up in Tangiers, in Morocco; I was raised there, although my background is Spanish.

I left Morocco at 17 to study chemical engineering and then at 23 went to Paris and New York, studying to be a nose alongside head perfumers Bernard Chant and Ernest Shiftan at International Flavors & Fragrances – I never went to a ‘classical’ perfumery school and for me, it was more like an apprenticeship.

Bruno Javanovic

Bruno’s inspiration was a memory of his (incredibly glamorous sounding) mother, who’d liberally spray her fur coat with Cabochard (a vintage leather Chypre) before kissing him goodbye when she went to work.

‘I wanted to create an snapshot of the whole image of her in that coat, with the lipstick, her face powder, everything.’ Talking about how special it was for him to remember her smell, that when he missed her while she was at work ‘the scent was a way to have her a little longer,’ he thought this deconstructing theme was ‘a perfect opportunity for me to use my “super powers” to create that again…

What was our Findings

My Way has a floral fragrance and over time it mellows out to a woody scent. Value wise, I can say it’s another perfume that’s worth the cash in your pocket. One spray, will last you most of the day, so value for the money for this beautiful fragrance. The cost of purchasing My Way should be around the £65.00 mark.

Although I found a couple of bad reviews, probably 2 in a 100, this perfume would be a great buy.

Public Reviews

  • This was amazing! Such a beautiful fragrance that lasted for most of the day! Definitely recommend :)!
  • Gorgeous feminine perfume. Fresh and floral but in a good way not a heavy way. It’s just an oh so beautiful fragrance, I love it!
  • I’m not keen on the opening of this perfume but after 5 minutes it changes and smells pleasant. I don’t think anyone would dislike this so it would make a great gift. This is a floral sweet feminine scent for any age. Nothing ground breaking a more safe buy.
  • The fragrance is beautiful, sweet but not heavy, intense for the first half hour. I was happy with this intensity and unfortunately after an hour it’s power weakens. It is a pity that the fragrance blows away so quickly because it is really beautiful.

There are lots of reasons to consider when purchasing your perfume as the following will explain;

History

Coco Chanel

Coco Chanel picture

Coco Chanel ( Gabrielle Bouheur Chanel) was born on the 19th August 1883 in Saumur, Maine-et-Loire, France and died on the 10th January 1971.

Chanel started living with nuns at the age of 12 and for the 6 years that she lived with them she was brought up in a very strict environment. In the convent orphanage, Aubazine, in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine.

The path that led her to morning prayers was labeled in 5’s hence where No5 came from. On leaving school Coco learned to sew as a seamstress for 6 years and at night, was a singer at cafe-concert in La Rotonde. Where some say that’s when the name Coco was established.

In 1910 the french fashion designer opened her first boutique (rented premises) at 21 Rue Cambon called Chanel Modes and by 1927 owned 5 premises on the Rue Cambon.  Although there were accusations of collusion with the Germans during occupation of France. I feel it was probably true but this lady was a survivor and would do anything to be one.

Perfumer

Ernest Beaux

Picture of Ernest Beaux
Ernest Beaux

Pre 1912

Born in Moscow, Ernest Beaux was the son of Edouard Hyppolite Beaux(1835–1899) and Augustine Wilgemina Misfeld(1843–1906), second wife of Edouard Hyppolite Beaux (1835–1899), who was originally from Lille, France.

After his obligatory two years of military service in France, he returned to Moscow in 1902. Where he started his perfumery training at Rallet under the guidance of their technical director, A. Lemercier.

He finished his perfumery education in 1907, earned a promotion to senior perfumer, and was elected to the board of directors.

1912 onwards

In 1912 Russia celebrated the centennial of the Battle of Borodino, the turning point in Napoleon’s Russian ambitions. For this celebration Ernest Beaux created the fragrance “Bouquet de Napoleon,” a floral Eau de Cologne, for Rallet.

To follow up on his “Bouquet de Napoleon” success, Ernest Beaux created a now lost fragrance, the “Bouquet de Catherine”, honoring Catherine the Great.

This fragrance is not to be confused with a fragrance from Brocard, Rallet’s chief competitor in Russia called “The Empress’s Favorite Bouquet”, which later evolved into the Soviet version, “Red Moscow.”

Bouquet de Catherine was not a marketing success, perhaps due to Catherine the Great’s German heritage at a time of rising tensions between Russia and Germany which would lead, in 1914, to World War I.

While born and raised in Russia, Ernest Beaux’s French heritage brought him into the French army.

While it was generally expected that this war would last no more than a few months. He was not released from military service until 1919. And having by this time seen service in the infantry fighting against Germany.

Then as an intelligence officer and interrogator at an Allied prison camp at the Kola Peninsula at the Murmansk Oblast during the Russian Civil War.

While serving in the French military, Ernest Beaux’s perfumer colleagues at Rallet fled during Russia’s October Revolution to La Bocca, France, to continue working with Chiris.

In 1918 he was working as a counter-intelligence officer on the Anglo/French concentration camp of Mudyug island. Where he was interrogating Bolsheviks captured by the White Russian and Allied armies.

Ernest Beaux, In 1919 released now from the army, settled in Paris but continued to have a relationship with the former Rallet employees at La Boca. He created Chanel No5 in 1921.

What was our Findings

Chanel No 5 is one of those perfumes that you really need to test before you buy. The reason for this is, it can smell great in the bottle but once you apply it can change scent completely as it all depends on your skin type.

We tried it and it was great for us, classy and clean fragrance of Ylang-Ylang then Lily of the valley and finally a woody scent. So be warned try before you buy!!

Romance is in the air!

Public reviews

  • This scent is sophisticated, it’s not a loud fragrance. Definitely a classic to be enjoyed when you want to feel special. I love the bottle … very simple but elegant.
  • Beautiful fragrance that lingers. I have used this off and on ever since I used to use my mothers when I was a teenager. These days I think it is most becoming on older women.
  • I’m in mourning for my lost scent! For over 20 years I have worn No5, and never once did someone say they didn’t like the scent.
  • My children and nephews always used to say how they loved the smell of me. My clothes and my bedding always had the fresh finishing touches of it.

Romance is in the air!
Public reviews 5-9

  • We thought I had an “off” bottle, however 3 more later, and some research. But we found out that it had to be changed due to some moss and stupid new rules!!
  • But I cannot find anything that comes anywhere near that iconic aroma. Coco would have fought to the end to get the scent back. She was a strong, confident woman, and funny enough. I felt that way when applied, It sounds silly, but I really am lost without my Chanel No5 Armour!.
  • I have searched high and low, for top to low end perfumes, seeking a change from Chanel No 5. But found nothing that remotely compares. Frustratingly every other perfume leaves a sweet sickly or talc finish. No 5 always pulls through with a dark musky mysterious scent that I find myself lusting over.
  • It either suits you or it doesn’t and based on that you either love it or hate it. Initially I found this scent offensive. Upon receiving the satin spray (a more delicate sandal based version, now discontinued) as a gift, my love for No 5 emerged. Wear morning, day, night, any season.

Which is really a false saving because you will over time use twice the amount of the fake product for it to smell for the same time period as the original.

Choose your perfume on whether you are purchasing the product for evening wear or office wear. As you really don’t want to be going to work smelling as if your ready to party the evening away.

Perfume do smell differently on other people, the reason for this is the reaction of the ingredients to your individual skin type. We are all different and the fragrance will not differ much but the difference is there.

What was our Findings

As you can tell by the perfume notes that when you first apply this perfume it will give you a hit of fruits and what a beautiful fragrance it is, fresh, fruity and not too overpowering but will mellow through to the violet petals and jasmine while the musk slowly introduces itself in the background.

On one application you should get about 6 hours of pure joy from this scent which is great value for money and that’s why this perfume is one of the most best selling perfumes  you can buy, hence why it has won award after award.

  • I’ve always admired this happiness in a bottle for a long time, until late last year I got one! I fell totally in love at first sight!❤️❤️ It has a very unique way of announcing your presence, and it lasts really long, with few drops. I’ll recommend any day to everyone!❤️
  • This is such a beautiful fresh smelling fragrance that lasts all day. Yet another favourite. Genuine product at a fantastic price.
  • I love this parfum. The fragrance is wonderful. I get complements and always asked, “What are you wearing?”. The fragrance lasts all day.
  • Most amazing, delicate, soft, yummy perfume ever! Great any time fragrance… winter, spring, summer or fall. I usually switch my scent each season to match the season, (Such as Dolce’s “Light Blue” for summer and then Gucci’s “Guilty” in Winter) but this perfume seems to go lovely with every season. I get a lot of compliments when I wear it.

Reasons to consider when purchasing your Perfume

The reason why some perfumes are expensive really depends on what ingredients it contains which is why fake perfumes are cheaper.

Because of this, the products are not natural but man made, to actually copy the scent, which is really a false saving because you will over time use twice the amount of the fake product for it to smell for the same time period as the original.

There are lots of reasons to consider when purchasing your perfume as the following will explain;

Once you have purchased your product, where do you store it?.

Well most people will put their aftershave in the bathroom or on their bedside cabinet by the window, but this couldn’t be worse for your aftershave.

Aftershaves hate direct sunshine and damp places like a typical bathroom, so my advice would be to store it in a dark corner of your bedroom and it will last as long as to the manufacturer specifications.

What was our Findings

Gucci Memoir D’une Odeur is a long-lasting, beautiful fragrance that kept on giving. We applied it in the morning before leaving for work and the fragrance was still there on our return home.

Prices tend to start from £42.00 to £87.00 as it depends on the size and obviously where you purchase it from, so I have to say for the price this perfume was excellent.

We applied the product on in the morning and it lasted right through to the evening, and as a bonus this perfume is gender neutral, so you and your partner could share. It has a unique fragrance that is beautiful and not overpowering.

Public Reviews

  • Good perfume excellent fragrance
  • Super beautiful fragrance.
  • Intoxicating but delicate scent
  • It’s a delicious perfume. Very soft and elegant
  • This beautiful scent of memory makes me sad.
  • I completely agree with the other reviewers that this scent is only good when it has been on the skin for a few minutes. When I first sprayed it in the air and on the paper testers in the store I did not like it at all.
  • I was even annoyed that I had sprayed it on my wrist when I was out for the day and wanted to wash it off. After a few minutes though, the scent was so amazing.

History

Christian Dior

Christian Dior

Dior was born 21st January 1905 in Granville, Normandy and died on 23rd October 1957 from a heart attack while on holiday in Italy.

In 1928, when Dior left school he sold his clothing design’s from outside his house until he started a small arts studio selling different artists work but this closed down due to Dior having financial trouble due to the deep economic depression that engulfed the business world in the late 1920’s  as being the main cause.

In 1937 he was employed by Robert Piquet who was a well-known fashion designer. When the second World War started he joined up, but not for long due to the French capitulation to the Germans, but he was able to continue his work in France at Lelong Co on being released.

In 1946, the House of Dior was established at a private residence with his friend Marcel Boussac who was a wealthy business man.

The House of Dior actually celebrate the opening of the company as 1947 not 1946. The reason behind this is because the first line of clothing was released on 12th Febuary that year.

History

Coco Chanel

Coco Chanel picture

Chanel ( Gabrielle Bouheur Chanel) was born on the 19th August 1883 in Saumur, Maine-et-Loire, France and died on the 10th January 1971.

On leaving school Coco worked as a seamstress for 6 years and at night was a singer at cafe-concert in La Rotonde, where some say that’s when the name Coco was established.

In 1910 the french fashion designer opened her first boutique (rented premises) at 21 Rue Cambon called Chanel Modes and by 1927 owned 5 premises on the Rue Cambon.

The famous logo above was designed by Coco herself in 1920. Although there were accusations of collusion with the Germans during occupation, I feel it was probably true but this lady was a survivor and would do anything to be one.

Perfumer

Jacques Polge.

Jacques Polge

Coco Mademoiselle was created in the year 2001 by Jacques Polge, who was Head of perfumer at Les Parfums Chanel from 1978 to 2015.

During his time at Chanel he created the following;

1970 – Rive Gauche, Yves Saint Laurent | 1982 – Diva, Emanuel Ungaro |

1982 – Antaeus | 1984 – Coco | 1987 – Senso, Emanuel Ungaro |

1990 – Egoiste | 1996 – Allure | 2001 – Coco Mademoiselle

What was our Findings

The scent of Coco Mademoiselle was a sweet and clean fragrance which was not too overpowering. At first, it was quite strong but over time it gently mellowed as the scent of white flowers and Tonka bean started to come through.

I’ve heard people say its an old women s perfume but strangely it was produced to target the 20-30 age group and it will suit any age group, young or old.

For best results its best worn on a cool day or an evening wear during a cool summer night while out for partying. Once you have applied the perfume that’s it for the day, yes the day, it lasts that long.

When you wear this perfume people will smell you and think “she’s wearing Coco, quality lady”. That’s it right there Quality. This perfume also comes in 2 sizes, very handy hand bag size and a 6.8fl oz bottle!

Choose your perfume on whether you are purchasing the product for evening wear or office wear as you really don’t want to be going to work smelling as if your ready to party the evening away.

Perfume do smell differently on other people, the reason for this is the reaction of the ingredients to your individual skin type, we are all different. The fragrance will not differ much but the difference is there.

Conclusion

Coco Mademoiselle isn’t cheap, but like all things in this world if you want quality you have to pay for it! And I have to say its worth it!! This is a quality perfume created by a genius for Chanel to sell to you and me to enjoy.

I hope this article helped you, in making your decision easier on whether to purchase this product and also, what I have written in this article is my honest opinion on this perfume and I can guarantee you now, that I have no affiliation to Chanel in any way.
